Important Update About Upcoming Bathroom Vanity Prices

We want to give our customers advance notice about an important change that will affect the cost of bathroom vanities imported into Canada.

The Government of Canada has introduced a 25% surtax on certain imported wood cabinets and bathroom vanities. This new measure will increase our cost of bringing our bathroom vanity cabinets into Canada.

We know this isn't welcome news. Renovations are already a significant expense, and we understand how frustrating it is to see additional costs being added to products that  homeowners are planning to purchase.

What Does This Mean for Our Prices?

The good news is that we carry a large inventory of bathroom vanities. Because we will continue selling from this existing inventory, we do not expect an immediate increase across all of our vanity prices.

As we begin receiving replacement inventory at the higher landed cost, however, some prices will need to change. We expect customers will begin seeing the impact sometime this fall, but there is no specific date when all of our prices will increase. Changes will happen gradually as new inventory arrives.

Will Vanity Prices Increase by 25%?

No. We do not expect our retail prices to increase by the full 25%. The new surtax is 25% of the import value of the affected bathroom vanity cabinets. It is not a 25% tax added to the retail price of the complete vanity package you purchase from us. Our vanity packages include the cabinet along with other components such as the countertop, sink, mirror and faucet. Our countertops and faucets are imported separately from the cabinets and are not subject to this new cabinet surtax at this time. This means that while the cost of bringing our cabinets into Canada will increase significantly, the cost of the entire vanity package will not increase by 25%.

We will review the actual additional cost as new inventory arrives and do our best to keep any retail price increases as low as possible.

Higher Shipping Costs Are Also Affecting New Inventory

Unfortunately, the new surtax comes at a time when international shipping costs have also increased significantly. For some of our recent shipments, freight costs have increased three to four times compared with previous rates.

We have always worked hard to offer quality bathroom products at reasonable prices. We will continue looking for ways to absorb or reduce these additional costs wherever possible rather than simply passing every increase on to our customers.

Planning a Bathroom Renovation?

We don't want this notice to come across as a sales promotion. We simply believe our customers should know about these changes when making decisions about an upcoming renovation.

If you already know that you will need a bathroom vanity later this year, purchasing while our existing inventory is still available at current pricing may help you avoid some of the expected increases.

We have substantial inventory on hand, so there is no need to panic or rush into a decision. However, as existing inventory sells and is replaced with newly imported products, higher costs will gradually need to be reflected in our prices.

Our Commitment to Keeping Prices Affordable

We know increased costs ultimately affect our customers, and we share the frustration surrounding these changes. As new inventory arrives, we will evaluate our costs product by product and do everything we reasonably can to minimize price increases rather than simply passing the full increase on to our customers.

The current surtax is scheduled to apply for 200 days, after which the situation will be reviewed. If the surtax is reduced or removed and our import costs come back down, we will do our best to reflect those savings in our prices as well.
