Vanity Installation Guide
How to Install a Bathroom Vanity
Important Precautions
- Read and follow all instructions and warnings provided by the sealant manufacturer.
- If you're unfamiliar with plumbing or cabinetry installation, consult a professional.
- Vanity installation may require two people due to the size and weight of components.
Before You Begin
-
Test fit all components—vanity cabinet, countertop, faucet, and mirror—before installation.
- Note: If the underside brackets on the countertop interfere with the cabinet, remove them. Secure the counter afterward using metal plumber's strapping and appropriate-length wood screws.
- If any part is incorrect or does not fit, contact modernbathrooms.ca via email or call 604-553-0243 or 1-855-917-0200.

Installing a Floor-Standing Bathroom Vanity
Step 1: Position and Level the Vanity
- Place the cabinet against the wall, ensuring it is square and level.
- Use shims if necessary to correct for uneven floors or walls.
- Failure to level the vanity can cause structural issues over time.
Step 2: Confirm Plumbing Access
- Check that the plumbing lines align with the vanity cutouts.
- If required, notch the cabinet to allow access.
- Recommended drain height is 20–23 inches from the floor, but this can vary.
Step 3: Secure Vanity to the Wall
- Locate the wall studs and use wood screws to anchor the vanity through the back support rails.
- This prevents shifting and ensures long-term stability.
Step 4: Attach Countertop and Faucet
⚠️ Protect the vanity top from damage during installation by using soft padding or a drop cloth.
- Install the faucet(s) onto the countertop before placing it on the vanity. Follow the faucet manufacturer’s directions.
- Apply a clear silicone sealant around the top edge of the cabinet. Use a minimal amount to avoid spillover.
- Gently place the countertop onto the cabinet and press down evenly.
- Wipe off any excess silicone with a soft cloth.
- For quartz countertops, attach any included side splashes using silicone sealant.
- Note: If the underside brackets on the countertop interfere with the cabinet, remove them. Secure the counter afterward using metal plumber's strapping and appropriate-length wood screws.
Step 5: Install the Drain

- Confirm the drain matches your sink (e.g., overflow drain for overflow sink).
- Discard the thin upper rubber gasket.
- Place the upper drain assembly in the sink with plumber’s putty under the flange.
- Wrap Teflon tape (2–3 times) around the threaded section where the lower gasket and nut will connect.
- Install the thicker rubber gasket (cup side up) and tighten the nut securely from below.
- Remove any excess plumber’s putty from the sink.
- Connect the lower drain assembly and attach it to the wall drain.
- Turn on the water and check for leaks.
- If leaks occur, the assembly may need to be disassembled and reinstalled.
Installing a Wall Hung Vanity
Follow the same installation steps as a floor-standing cabinet, with these additional recommendations for wall-mounted models:
- Reinforce the Wall: Use wooden backing or bracing between the studs to provide extra support. Do not rely on drywall anchors or plugs alone to support the vanity's weight.
- Use Proper Hardware: Secure the cabinet to the wall using construction screws. Be sure to anchor into as many wall studs and backing supports as possible.
- L-Bracket Support: Attach the included metal L-brackets (pre-installed in the vanity cabinet) to the wall for added stability.
- Optional Mounting Holes: If needed, you can drill additional holes through the wooden support rails inside the cabinet to align with more studs or bracing.
Removing the Drawer
Most vanities from modernbathrooms.ca use one of several common slide mechanisms. These are typically mounted on the bottom of the drawer, with a slide on each side. However, some models may use alternative mechanisms.
Caution: If you remove any drawers, be sure to label their original position. This will make reinstallation easier and ensure proper alignment.
